Motorbike Mechanics

If you love the feeling of the wind through your hair then you could well be a motorbike lover! Lots of people find motorbikes much more exciting than a car!

Learning to look after your bike

If you own a motor cycle then there are a few important things that you should probably learn. As with any other machine, motorbikes are complicated and need regular maintenance if they are to work their best. This means that anyone who wants to use a motorbike should spend some time learning motorbike mechanisms.

There are a few things that you should remember to check on a regular basis. You should know where your motorbike handbook is, you need this as it will contain lots of important specs which make it easy to maintain your bike. If you don’t already have one then you should make it your mission to get your hands on one as it is very important. If you really can’t find one then you could consider talking to a motorcycle mechanic, or searching the internet.

Four wheeled vehicles are often much easier to maintain, if you forget about the tyre pressures for example in a car then it’s not that important. However if you forget this with your motorbike then it can be very dangerous.

Checks before riding:

  • Tyres – You should make sure that the motorbike tyres are in good condition and there aren’t any objects stuck in the tyre tread
  • Tyre Pressure – It’s important to make sure that the pressures of your tyres are kept to the level your manufacturer recommends
  • Oil – Check the level of your oil when your bike is parked on flat ground
  • Coolant – Once your bike has cooled check the coolant levels
  • Chain – If your bike is chain driven then you should check that your chain is of the right tension and oiled properly
  • Brakes – Check that your brakes are working, especially before going down a hill.
  • Lights – You should make sure that the lights work; pay particular attention to the headlights and brake light.

If you have a specific make of motorcycle then you should consider finding a mechanic who specialises in that one brand. For example there are lots of Triumph mechanics which specialise in fixing Triumph motor bikes.
